said it long ago, and it still stands today: reading music isnāt just for geniuses or professionals. Itās a language anyone can learn, just like reading words. With the right approach, it unlocks a whole new world of creativity and expression.

It wasn't my intention... but I'm so happy with how things turned out.
If you're learning a new skill or have picked up a hobby to start 2026, if you can, I strongly suggest working on it in front of the kids.
Whether it's a French knot or making a sour dough loaf, give kids a chance to see this new learning unfold.
It's so natural for them to believe that adults have it easy and things come quick to us. That's because they don't get to see us learn new things often... definitely not at the same frequency they're learning at.
I had no ulterior motives when I sat down to start playing piano again. I just decided I wanted this for myself. Thankfully, I'm not a whiz at it, so my kids have many more years ahead of listening to me slog away and I couldn't happier about it. #2026 #2026resolutions #newhobby

Most pianists think about these fears whenever theyāre going for a gig or live performance.
The fear is real.
1) Fear of the sustain pedal
Many pianists struggle with this. Not every sustain pedal works on every keyboard some synthesizers require specific pedal types. Because of this, pianists often fear getting on stage and realizing the sustain pedal wonāt work at all.
2) Going for a gig without a personal pedal
Some keyboard players donāt own a personal sustain pedal and rely on whatever is available at the venue. Unfortunately, many times they arrive and thereās no pedal at all. This limits expression and affects how freely they can play.
3) Fear of not being able to transpose
Not all pianists can comfortably play in every key. So thereās always fear of meeting a keyboard or piano without a transpose button. Some even turn down gigs because of this.
I come in peace, you the transposer please donāt fight me š
.
4) Fear of complex songs and syncopation
Event hosts often assume pianists know every song, every intro, and every syncopation. In reality, this isnāt always true. Pianists fear songs they havenāt interacted with before, especially when they come unexpectedly during live performances.
5) Fear of a bad performance
Bad performances hit pianists hard. They tend to replay mistakes in their minds over and over again, leading to discouragement, self-doubt, and even loss of confidence.
6) Fear of meeting a ācomplexā keyboard or piano at programs
This is a big one. Some keyboards or pianos look intimidating too many buttons, unfamiliar layouts, strange sounds, or poor setup. Pianists fear not understanding the instrument quickly enough before performing, which can affect confidence and delivery on stage. #pianist #keyboardist #piano #musiclife #fyp
